South Tyneside College Rugby union Football Club (STC RUFC) was establish in 1956. The club were previously known as South Shields Marine Technical College Rugby Union Football Club (SSMTC RUFC) and at this point had the longest rugby club name in the entire country.
The college has had a rugby club since 1956. This is now known as South Shields RFC after changing its name in 2015. The club is based at the college and trains and plays its home games there.
