May 16, 2022 · Rampart Reservoir loop is an 11 mile hike located just outside of Woodland Park, Colorado. In my opinion, this spot is a hidden gem in central Colorado as it really makes you feel like you are outside of Colorado and somewhere else in the country.
- Boating. Boating is a very popular summer activity at Rampart Reservoir Recreation Area. Visitors are allowed to bring motorized and non-motorized boats on the lake.
- Camping. A huge draw to visiting Rampart Reservoir Recreation Area is the awesome camping and gorgeous campgrounds that are available. The National Forest Service maintains the Thunder Ridge Campground and Meadow Ridge Campgrounds near the shores of the lake.
- Fishing. Avid fisherman will love the fishing options at Rampart Reservoir. Fishing is allowed while on a boat or from any of the designated areas on the lake.
- Hiking & biking. Rampart Reservoir provides lots of marked and unmarked trails for hikers and mountain bikers. One of our favorites inside Pike National Forest is the Rainbow Gulch Trailhead.
Rampart Reservoir is just a 40 minute drive from the west side of Colorado Springs and just east of the town of Woodland Park. Rampart is by far one of the deepest reservoirs within a 1-2 hour drive from the Springs and has excellent trout fishing from the shore.

Directions: Take Hwy 24 west from Colorado Springs. Turn right at the McDonalds on Baldwin Rd in Woodland Park (This is a stoplight and the road "Y"s off to the right). This becomes Rampart Range Road (FSR 300). Follow the signs to Rampart Reservoir. The trailhead is well marked, approximately 6 miles after you turn off Hwy 24.
