I'll second the Little Cafe, DMain, went there many Sundays after church to eat some of their great schnitzel & spaetzle. Another original was Doug's Body Shop. My recollection was it was around Woodward & 8 mile, but not completely sure, I was pretty young and directionally challenged.
Coffee shops in Detroit years ago were smaller such as 1515 Broadway. Some that opened in the 60's and 70s were set up in a Top Hats, White Castle scheme. Benches and tables, well lit, stools that lined the bar or windows.
Over the years, the club had many famous visitors, including Franklin Roosevelt, Charles Lindbergh, and John D. Rockefeller. The 1950s marked an all-time high for membership of the club at 1,000. The club closed in 2013 when it was sold to private investors.
