    The British Library's Newspaper Archive

    The British Newspaper Archivecan be accessed for free from any Library computer. The website has thousands of historical British newspapers dating back to the 1700s and is regularly updated with new titles and new pages of existing titles. Local newspapers on the website include the Shields Gazette, the Sunderland Echo, the Newcastle Evening Chronicle and the Northern Echo. British Newspaper Archive is free for Library members, but only from Library computers, not from home.

You can call into the Reference and Local Studies Library to use our microfilm readers and it is advised to call ahead to book a machine on0191 424 7864.
