The Zenith-centered conspiracy storyline is shaky, but it's still a hell of a lot better than anything having to do with Chester's Mill. Not that our heroes don't also act like complete pinheads once they make it outside the dome, but I'd much rather watch Barbie slowly uncover whatever sinister plot is going on with the government and the dome than watch Big Jim track down his stalker. Surprise! It's the guy we know! And not the five other non-characters we don't care about!
Yeah, so basically, in "Awakening," Phil drunkenly snapped again. And got put down again. And was curiously difficult to overcome despite the fact that, just a few days ago, he was shot in the chest and put in the hospital. It was also very nice of Phil to not just go after Big Jim first thing. But instead to leave vandalization clues about his possible identity.
Either way, Big Jim's sheriff now. Because he finally must have realized that since no one's actually in charge and capable of appointing someone as sheriff, one might as well just pick up the badge oneself. It doesn't matter either way. And if people don't like it - or even like you - who gives a s***? It's a safe bet that most of the citizens don't even know, or care, that the town's gone through three sheriffs in five days.
"Awakening" opened with a lead character acting like an idiot and simply couldn't recover. Barbie's initial message blunder sent the episode into a weird spiral, only serving to confuse Julia and then make Barbie himself panic about what he thought she might think about what he wrote.
