William Henry Lawrence Peter Wentworth-Fitzwilliam, 8th Earl Fitzwilliam, DSO (31 December 1910 – 13 May 1948), styled Viscount Milton before 1943, was a British soldier, nobleman, and peer, with a seat in the House of Lords.

He was born at Wentworth Woodhouse, just over the Sheffield border with Rotherham, married Olive Dorothea Plunket in 1933, and succeeded to the earldom in 1943.
Peter was tragically killed in a plane crash in May 1948, at the age of 38. He was succeeded by the 9th Earl Fitzwilliam, Eric, Peter’s first cousin once removed.

On the 2nd Marquess of Rockingham's death without issue in 1782 the marquessate lapsed and his estates were inherited by his nephew the 4th Earl Fitzwilliam.
