No, it isn't smart, no it isn't really scary, but it's got a weird vibe to itself and they references Young Frankenstein at one point by calling the character "Victor Fraank-ken-steen". I kinda wish the mad detective chasing after them was actually Sherlocke Holmes instead.
Victor Frankenstein is a well acted and entertaining movie, but I think it is hard to classify, it is not really a "horror" movie, but has horror elements. It is intense and has some disturbing scenes, though nothing too over the top.

A subplot of the movie is that a detective called Turpin is investigating the murder of someone from the circus (who died by accident during their escape), which leads him to the home of Victor and Igor. During this scene, Turpin questions Victor and his motives, suspecting him of foul play.
