- Madonna – You Can Dance. Released: 1987. Madonna’s first remix album set the bar for how it should be done. You Can Dance contains remixes from her first three albums (though the focus was on her self-titled 1983 debut) and a new track, Spotlight, all re-worked with the help of producer John “Jellybean” Benitez and True Blue producer Patrick Leonard.
- Beatles – Love. Released: 2006. Produced by George Martin and his son Giles, Love remixed Beatles classics - including Eleanor Rigby, Strawberry Fields Forever and a mashup of Blackbird/Yesterday - for a Cirque du Soleil Vegas show of the same name.
- J To That L-O – The Remixes. Released: 2002. Jennifer Lopez's remix album was, in part, a savvy sidestep to place her in the popular US hip-hop market; featuring complete re-workings (in some cases, only the titled remained the same) of singles from her first two albums.
- Linkin Park – Reanimation. Released: 2002. Linkin Park’s first remix album was an entire re-work of their hugely successful debut Hybrid Theory. Produced by Mike Shinoda and mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent, the rap-rock collection fused big names and newcomers in hip-hop with nu-metal heavyweights, including Marilyn Manson and Jurassic 5’s Chali 2n, helping to push the band into new territories.
- My Bloody Valentine, ‘Soon’ (The Andrew Weatherall Mix) [1990] My Bloody Valentine always sounded epic, but they never sounded this fun. One of Weatherall’s best, of many.
- Cornershop, ‘Brimful Of Asha’ (Fatboy Slim/Norman Cook Remix) [1998] Does what the truly great remixes do – render you unable to enjoy the original.
- Tori Amos, ‘Professional Widow’ (Armand’s Star Trunk Funkin’ Mix) [1996] Armand van Helden’s remix of the Tori Amos classic (which is rumoured to be about Courtney Love) became way bigger than the original itself.
- Florence & The Machine, ‘You’ve Got The Love’ (The xx Remix) [2007] One of the more thoughtful yet powerful mixes in our list. The xx break it down to the bare bones.

- Linkin Park - Reanimation. A radical reworking of Linkin's debut album Hybrid Theory. A highlight is the reworking of the hit In The End. The collection was so successful, the band did it all again with Recharged, a remix of their Living Things album.
- The Cure - Mixed Up. Robert Smith and co seemed an unlikely subject for the remixer's art, but this 1990 collection embraced the then-popular baggy shuffle with interesting results.
- Gorillaz - D-Sides. OK, so the first disc in this double set is a standards B-sides collection, but the second is full of remixes of tracks from the Demon Days album, including Soulwax's take on Dare and the rather brilliant Schtung Chinese New Year Remix of Dirty Harry.
- The Human League - Love And Dancing. Alongside fellow Yorkshire synth pop enthusiasts Soft Cell, The Human League kick started the 1980s trend for the remix album with this pioneering collection that reworked the band's epic Dare album.
