He was the dean of the school of engineering from 1944 to 1958 and provost from 1955 to 1965 at Stanford University. Fred Terman (1900-1982) was dean of the School of Engineering at Stanford from 1944 to 1958 and university provost from 1955 to 1965. He and President Wally Sterling are credited with putting Stanford among the ranks of the world’s top universities.
Terman would go on to become a director of Hewlett-Packard and a key figure in establishing Stanford Research Park, where Hewlett-Packard would eventually construct its headquarters. Terman’s efforts would earn him the moniker “The Father of Silicon Valley.”
