Think of them as an environmental Google, Bing or Yahoo, where you can access and browse the internet as you normally would. Ecosia started back in 2009, when German engineer Christian Froll came up with the idea of using the profits from a search engine to help ...

From the get-go, Ecosia’s layout, customization options, and even its search results and ads might feel familiar to other leading search engines. That’s primarily because its deliverables (results and ads) are provided by MicrosoftBing, with Ecosia’s own algorithms filtered in for good measure. On the home page, a large search query bar dominates t...

Compared to other search engines, Ecosia takes user privacy quite seriously, as outlined on the company’s “Privacy” page. Ecosia only holds onto certain user data for up to a week, after which the info becomes completely anonymized. Unlike other search engines, Ecosia does not sell your data to advertising companies. Additionally, every search is e...

For those that have used Google or Bing’s search engines, Ecosia will feel very familiar. Results were returned quickly with the most relevant deliverables sorted to the top. Tapping into Bing’s framework, there’s quite a bit of crossover when it comes to results. For instance, a search for “Walt Disney” on both platforms delivered essentially the ...

While DuckDuckGois a bit more privacy-focused, neither competitor donates their proceeds to conservation efforts (if that’s important to you). Then, there’s Go...

  3. If it really is the official TreeCard app, it should be fine, I guess? That said, I was in line for the prelaunch of TreeCard, and at a certain point I was apparently removed from the list (around the time they redesigned the then brand new mobile apps and removed access from the browser), and when I tried contacting TreeCard and Ecosia about this, I was simply ghosted.

  4. Ecosia after all is still a pretty small company with roughly 8 million users (although this is growing really fast). As far as the misleading search results or collecting data go, this isn’t really something we can test. But given the track record of the team at Ecosia I’m pretty confident they aren’t out to scam people.

  5. Jul 7, 2022 · Ecosia has a “shop” that allows you to give the gift of planting trees. Plant trees for anywhere between $10-$60 and you’ll receive a certificate of your giving — which you can give as a gift. You can even get specific, by donating trees that support urban equity, trees that empower women, or trees that help wildlife.

  7. As good as Google, but grows trees instead of profits. Ecosia is really easy to use online, or through their apps for apple and android. I switched 6 months ago and have never looked back. The website and app are really clear and easy to use with a layout which is very similar to Google.
