Björn Ironside (Swedish: Björn Järnsida) (Old Norse: Bjǫrn Járnsíða), according to Norse legends, was a Norse Viking chief and Swedish king. According to the 12th- and 13th-century Scandinavian histories, he was the son of notorious Viking king Ragnar Lodbrok and lived in the 9th century, between 855 and 858. [1]

Fierce warrior, conqueror and king, Björn Ironside is one of the towering figures of the Viking age. Yet, at the same time, it’s hard to separate the hard historical truths from the awesome legends that have developed around the fabled Norseman.
- Björn is a twelve-year-old boy who lives on a small farm in a village outside Kattegat with his father Ragnar, his mother Lagertha, and his eleven-year-old sister Gyda.
- Upon their return to Kattegat, Björn told Lagertha of Aslaug and his father's infidelity, though he did not say much out of loyalty to Ragnar.
- Björn was surprised when Þórunn told him that she was pregnant. After the battle of Mercia, he asked Þórunn to marry him and she said yes. He looked after her when her face was badly scarred in battle.
- After returning to Kattegat with the rest of the raiding party he takes the treasure from the raid and shows it to his family and Queen Aslaug; his younger half-brother Ubbe shows interest in a map of Europe that Björn had taken, believing it to be more valuable than gold.
