Not to mention the best fighters from all over the country will be there, so if Ah Sahm's looking to prove something to himself, there's no better place, but Ah Sahm declines her offer. Chao arrives, and he's well aware of Ah Sahm's partnership with Happy Jack, which he doesn't see ending well. All in the goal to destroy Mai Ling, despite the fact that she paid Chao to secure Ah Sahm's passage home when he was arrested a few months ago. It got him thinking, what is their relationship. All Chao knows for certain is that when Ah Sahm and Mai Ling's secret war is said and done, they're all going to suffer for it.

Mai Ling and Li Yong pay Zing an unexpected visit after he turned up short based on the opium receipts. Zing claims that he charged them a small service fee for killing the Suey Sing, but that isn't what they agreed upon, and Mai Ling expects the money she's owed by the end of the day. She also warns him that the next time Zing goes against another tong without consulting her, she'll consider it a breach of their agreement and kick him out of the opium business.

Mayor Blake and Buckley arrive at Mercer Steel to discover that Penny has employed the Hop Wei to protect her business. They confront her with this discovery, for which she replies she had no other choice, given how other businesses were being firebombed. If the Hop Wei aren't gone by tomorrow, Blake will have no choice but to pull the city contract.

Patterson delivers Ah Toy her half of the monthly rent for their properties, but he's a little off center after being questioned by the police about Timmons and McCormick. When Patterson reveals that Bill and Lee were the officers who questioned him, she tells him that she will handle it. She killed Timmons and McCormick to protect their profits, remarking that it's the American way, and assures Patterson that she would never hurt him.

Lee returns to the bar where he was robbed and brutally attacks the men who stole from him. He shoots one man in the leg and stands over him with his gun cocked, but before he can pull the trigger, Abigail returns his money and tells him that he's made his point.
