The City of Downey, home to more than 113,000 residents in 12.41 square miles, is a diverse and dynamic community in the heart of Los Angeles County, approximately 15 miles from Downtown Los Angeles, and 5 miles from Orange County.
Downey is located at the intersection of Lakewood (CA-19) and Firestone (CA-42) Boulevards. The Stonewood Center (see "Buy" below) is on the northeast quadrant of the intersection.

The area became part of Rancho Los Nietos, a Spanish land grant to Manuel Nieto, in 1784, and, when Nieto’s lands were subdivided.
