Fabian Lukas Schär (German: [faˈbi̯aːn ˈʃɛːɐ̯], Swiss Standard German: [-ˈʃɛːr]; born 20 December 1991) is a Swiss professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Newcastle United. He is known for his powerful free kicks, long shots and long passes.
A ball-playing Swiss international defender, Schär signed for Newcastle United from Deportivo de La Coruña in July 2018. His career began with hometown club Wil 1900 before linking up with Basel in 2012, where he helped the RotBlau to a hat-trick of Swiss Super League titles.
