How To Reset GE Dishwasher. Thankfully, resetting your machine is painless: all that’s involved is pressing the “Start/Reset” or “Start/Restart” button, depending on the specific model. Close the door if you haven’t already to avoid a spill. During its reset, the machine will stop its cycle and drain water.
- Control Lock Feature. Most dishwasher models with electronic controls have a child lock-out feature to prevent the dishwasher from accidentally being turned on.
- Door Not Latching Properly. Make sure there is nothing preventing the door from closing securely, such as trim, insulation, the cabinet or countertop. The door latch must be fully engaged for the switch to signal that the door is closed properly and the dishwasher is ready to operate.
- Make Sure the Delay Start is Not On. Models with a Delay Hours or Delay Start button will allow you to start the dishwasher now, but the wash cycle will not begin until the set number of hours has passed.

- Outlet Tripped or Power Disconnected. Verify the electrical plug is still connected, and that the plug isn’t wet. The GFCI outlet can be reset directly on the outlet in the event that it was tripped and no longer glowing.
- Circuit Breaker Tripped. If the circuit breaker has tripped, your garbage disposal won’t turn on due to a lack of power. Find your breaker box and see if any of your kitchen switches are in the ‘off’ or half-tripped position.
- Door Latch Failure. The door must be latched during the entire cycle. A defective door latch assembly may prevent the dishwasher from running when the door opens.
- Broken Door Strike or Door Hinge. If the door has trouble opening or closing, the door strike and hinge can be visually inspected. Inspect for bent door strike, or the door opening too quickly.
