Groton is a town in northwestern Middlesex County, Massachusetts, United States, within the Greater Boston metropolitan area. The population was 11,315 at the 2020 census. An affluent bedroom community roughly 45 miles from Boston, Groton has a large population of professional workers, many of whom work in Boston's tech industry.
Groton is located in the Nashoba Valley of Massachusetts and is the largest town in Middlesex County. With an area of 32.54 square miles, Groton offers rivers, lakes, forests, glacier hikes, bird watching, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, easy walking trails, and biking trails.
Groton residents have helped author every major chapter of America's history. First settled as a trading post with Native Americans, Groton was America's original frontier. In 1655 trader John Tinker helped establish the Groton Plantation, encompassing much of today's Nashoba Valley Region.
