Her gorgeous mother was the acclaimed actress Anna Lee, and her dad, Robert Stevenson, was a respected movie director. So, it could be said that she was destined for Hollywood.
This black and white film, made by renowned low-budget studio Amicus, is brilliantly eerie in an low-key way, and subverts expectations in terms of plot. All the performances are good but Christopher Lee is particularly strong - urbane, charming and natural (and also, for such a very English actor, very convincing as an American academic).
