The city of Nuuk (formerly “Godthåb” or “Good Hope”) was founded in 1728 when the missionary Hans Egede moved his colony from its original location at the mouth of fjord to the current site. His home was built in that same year and still stands in Nuuk’s Colonial Harbour where it was first constructed.
