    Development

    In February 2019, Amazon announced that Jane Featherstone and Reed Morano would be adapting Naomi Alderman's novel, The Power. Sister Pictures, the production company, had already secured the book's option in 2016. Featherstone, de Pear, Alderman, Wilson, and Tucker serve as executive producers, while Tim Bricknell produces the series. However, as of March 2023, Morano withdrew from the project, declining credit as director and executive producer.

    Writing

    A noteworthy aspect of the series is that its writers' room consists entirely of women, featuring Claire Wilson, Sarah Quintrell, Whit Anderson, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Rebecca Levene, Raelle Tucker, Sue Chung, Brennan Peters, and Michelle Hsu. Quintrell additionally holds the positions of co-executive producer and story consultant.

    Leslie Mann was announced to play Margot Cleary-Lopez in late October 2019, followed by Auliʻi Cravalho in the role of Jos Cleary-Lopez the following month. In January 2020, John Leguizamo, Toheeb Jimoh, Ria Zmitrowicz, Halle Bush, Heather Agyepong, Nico Hiraga, and Daniela Vega were added to the cast.
