The Astronauts developed out of a group, The Stormtroupers, which was originally formed at Boulder High School, Boulder, Colorado in 1956 by Jon "Storm" Patterson (vocals, guitar), Robert Graham "Bob" Demmon (guitar; born February 11, 1939), and Brad Leach (drums).
The Storm Troopers. The Astronauts began as a three man lineup of Boulder High School graduates with John “Storm” Patterson on bass, Bob Demmon on guitar and Brad Leach on drums.
Stormy Lake, also known as Patterson Lake, is located in the Almaguin Highlands on the northeast boundary of Restoule Provincial Park in Patterson Township, Parry Sound District, Ontario, Canada. The lake is connected to Clear Lake, being only separated by an island, making Stormy Lake and Clear Lake essentially the same body of water.
May 27, 2022 · R.I.P. Jon “Stormy” Patterson, who passed away on Tuesday morning following illness. Patterson was the last remaining member of the Astronauts, Colorado’s premier group of the early ‘60s—the landlocked surf band from Boulder outsold the rival Beach Boys in Japan.
With Boulder High School pal Jon "Stormy" Patterson, also a guitarist, he formed The Stormtroopers in the late '50s with another school chum, drummer Brad Leach. Two lead guitarists and a guy with a couple of sticks.
