May 27, 2022 · R.I.P. Jon “Stormy” Patterson, who passed away on Tuesday morning following illness. Patterson was the last remaining member of the Astronauts, Colorado’s premier group of the early ‘60s—the landlocked surf band from Boulder outsold the rival Beach Boys in Japan.

The band was originally born in 1956, when Bob Demmon, a student at Boulder High School, teamed up with fellow classmate, Stormy Patterson to form a rock group. Demmon played guitar and Stormy played bass.
