A Bay of Blood (Italian: Ecologia del delitto, lit. "Ecology of Crime", later retitled Reazione a catena [lit. "Chain Reaction"]) (also known as Carnage, Twitch of the Death Nerve and Blood Bath) is a 1971 Italian giallo slasher film directed by Mario Bava.
The murder of a wealthy countess triggers a chain reaction of brutal killings in the surrounding bay area, as several unscrupulous characters try to seize her large estate. An elderly heiress is killed by her husband who wants control of her fortunes.

This is arguably one of the first slashers, as it dons a long list of murders, does so near a small body of water (camp crystal anyone?!), and highlights a major pick-off sequence of horny youths. Also, taken in isolation, there are many sequences that are breathtaking, especially the opening.

Comprised almost entirely of euphoric music cues and coked-out crash-zooms, Bava creates a quintessentially Italian work, its base intentions not a far cry from the blood-spatter mesmerism of Argento. Mottled flesh and misfortune tellers loom over an inhospitable body of water; a stagnant albeit cursed crystallisation of the wrath of nature.
