He was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and is married to Nadine Wielgopolski of Hull, Quebec. They have three children.

  3. Dr. MacLean was the Chief Science Advisor for the ISS from 1993 to 1994 during which time he developed a plan that streamlined science management for the space station. He was then appointed Director General of the Canadian Astronaut Program for two years.
