Mother of Mine (Finnish: Äideistä parhain, Swedish: Den bästa av mödrar) is a 2005 Finnish drama film directed by Klaus Härö. The film is based on a novel by Heikki Hietamies . It received good reviews from the Finnish press, and was selected to be Finland's submission for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 78th Academy Awards .

Mother of Mine (English Subtitled) Evacuated to the safety of Sweden during WWII, 9 year-old Finnish Eero is torn between his birth mother, still caught up in the war, and his surrogate mother trying desperately to protect him from the Nazis. Finland/Sweden. Finnish & Swedish w/English subtitles.
Fennoscandia, 1943. Nine-year-old Eero whose father is killed during the war is brought to Sweden to foster parents to his protection like thousands of other Finnish children. Eero feels lost, particularly as his foster mother Signe behaves very unfriendly. She was expecting a little girl and still mourns for her daughter who drowned in the sea.

9/10. English Name: Mother of Mine. A Very Special Movie. Jamester 16 September 2005. I saw this at the 2005 Toronto International Film Festival today to a sell-out crowd with a very engaging Finnish director, Klaus Härö present. This film had real heart and honesty.
