Lake Alice Hospital was a rural psychiatric facility in New Zealand that closed in 1999. It was the site of abuse allegations and a police investigation, and is now undergoing demolition and redevelopment.

Jul 24, 2024 · The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in State and Faith-based Care found that most of the 362 children who went through the Lake Alice Child and Adolescent Unit were given electric shocks and paraldehyde injections without anaesthetic. The Government apologises and considers redress for the survivors of this abuse.
