  7. Robert Stevenson In 2017 we discovered that the renowned film director Robert Stevenson (1905-1986) was born in Buxton. With help from the Film Hub North West Central and others, we were able to commemorate him with a plaque in the Pavilion Gardens, a small exhibition and screenings of some of his most well-known films – including a sing-along Mary Poppins.
