Hicham El Guerrouj is a retired Moroccan middle-distance runner and the world record holder for the 1500 metres and mile events. He won two Olympic gold medals in both the 1500 m and 5000 m at the 2004 Athens Games and is widely regarded as the greatest middle-distance runner in history.
