Martin Held graduated as a technical biologist at the University of Stuttgart in 1994 and received his PhD for the development of a scaled biocatalytic process for manufacturing of fine chemicals employing and hydroxylating whole cell biocatalysts from the Institute of Biotechnology of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in 2000.
Martin Held (1908-1992) was a leading German film actor of the 1950's and 60's, known for his roles in Deadly Decision, The Captain from Köpenick and Fast ein Held. He also dubbed Hollywood actors such as E.G. Marshall and George Sanders.

Martin Held was a leading German film actor of the 1950's and 60's. He attended school in Berlin and then worked for a while as a technician at Siemens. In 1929, he received a stipend to train for acting at the Berlin University of the Arts, graduating in 1931.
