Rolf Losansky war der Sohn des Schriftenmalers Alfred Losansky und seiner Frau Luise, einer Krankenschwester und wuchs in der Dammvorstadt von Frankfurt (Oder), heute Słubice , auf. Nach dem Schulbesuch in Frankfurt (Oder) und Krumbach (Schwaben) absolvierte er 1946 bis 1949 eine Buchdruckerlehre in Frankfurt (Oder), bevor er 1950 bis 1953 auf die Arbeiter-und-Bauern-Fakultät in Berlin ging.

Rolf Losansky was born in Frankfurt an der Oder on in 1931. He trained as a printer of books and studied Directing at the Academy of Film & Television (HFF)/B in Babelsberg from 1955-1960. He was an assistant director to Frank Beyer and Guenter Reisch and began directing mainly children's films at the East German DEFA feature film studios in 1962.
