BFI IMAX is the UK’s biggest screen. Situated at London Waterloo, watching a film here is a completely immersive experience. Our programme ranges from the latest IMAX blockbusters to world-class alternative content and educational presentations.
IMAX is a proprietary system of high-resolution cameras, film formats, film projectors, and theaters known for having very large screens with a tall aspect ratio (approximately either 1.43:1 or 1.90:1) and steep stadium seating, with the 1.43:1 ratio format being available only in few selected locations.
The first thing you’ll see is the IMAX screen: floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall, it’s in your face wherever you look and plunges you deep inside the movie. You can’t get this kind of immersion from any home cinema system, let alone a TV or smartphone. In IMAX, every movie becomes an event.

Seeing a film at the BFI IMAX is like nothing else! The giant glass drum of the BFI IMAX, is the UK's largest state-of-the-art cinema, and one of only 30 IMAX cinemas in the world (and one of only four in Europe) that are able to screen films on 70mm format film.
