The phone is now in a weird state where it does not turn on and if I hold down the power button continuously the red light will appear for a second then go away and come back every 5 seconds or so if I keep the power button down.

Hi Ben, right next to the button "Image Wipe" on the top of the screen where the clip is shown, there is a button called "Split Screen". There you can select a multitude of options, but in your case you will need "Versions and Original" (the last one in the dropdown list).
