As you can see, Broad’s average had already been declining significantly by 2014, and there doesn’t seem to be an immediate drop in his average at this point as his very next innings Broad hit 37 at the Oval.

The sheer number of tests england have played and the longevity of Anderson and Broad and their fitness have meant they managed to surpass Walsh. Walsh is of course a better bowler (and probably has the best longevity of any bowler in history)but this is ridiculous nonetheless.
