Picture 8/10. The Criterion Collection presents Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets on Blu-ray in its original aspect ratio of 1.85:1 on a dual-layer disc. The 1080p/24hz high-definition presentation is sourced from a new 4K restoration, taken from a scan of the 35mm original camera negative. I am working off the disc included with the 4K UHD edition.

Apr 15, 2008 · Sadly, the Mean Streets UHD resembled the colors and black levels of that disc in many respects. Scorsese is a big supporter of Ritrovata's work and has even collaborated with them on several occasions. It looks like he was trying to emulate their awful work with his new grading of Mean Streets.

Jul 16, 2013 · Thank you for sharing. I've definitely noticed that sort of hue in 35mm prints I've seen, so for example with the upcoming release of Mean Streets I'm still reserving judgement, personally. Of course, Criterion doing restoration work correctly doesn't necessarily account for restorations they don't handle.
Mar 14, 2022 · Maybe Criterion is doing a Scorsese at Warner Brothers boxset and that is why they haven't released it (or Mean Streets.) Ah, I see I really hope O Lucky Man! isn’t a stand-alone, and that we get the entire Mick Travis trilogy (which would involve 3 studios-Paramount, WB, AND Universal)
