The electrical current cannot cross the gap created by the break to charge your phone. However, if you can eliminate the gap by bringing the broken ends together, the phone charger will work again. Before investing in a new phone charger try splicing the broken wires together.

Yep--hold the volume up and the volume down rockers at the same time until the device restarts. And of course there is the swipe up to wake.
9. Try different cables and power adapters. The biggest culprit of a faulty charger is a faulty charging cable. The cable experiences the most stress over time, so it tends to fail first. Use a different USB charging cable and adapter and see if the problem resolves itself. Replace one at a time to pinpoint the culprit.
