Jun 22, 2019 · When it came time to select a composer to write the score for Once Upon a Forest, David Kirschner asked me who I would prefer: James Horner or Randy Newman. I was a fan of Newman’s work, particularly his score for The Natural (1984), but I was more drawn to James’s symphonic approach.
Feb 7, 2007 · Once Upon a Forest embolizes the best of Horner's child-like musical scores in a way I never would have imagined for such a pathetic film. The movie, overly political for a children's film, is actually really terrible. But Horner's effort nearly saves the Director from all-out scrutiny. I mean, he did choose the right composer for his film.

The last song, "Please Wake Up", is a really sad song beautifully performed by Michael Crawford, a song inspired by "Once Upon a Time With Me" and the beginning of "The Forest". It is said that Michael Crawford fought himself not to cry when he recorded the song.
