Sep 21, 2012 · Gumtree is good for large collection only items. Your buyers will most likely be local. You can offer smaller items on gumtree and offer to post, but tread carefully. There is a lot of scammers on gumtree. I would avoid selling expensive electrical items, mobile phones, jewellery etc.

Jun 21, 2019 · Gumtree is a scammers paradise with sellers taking bank transfers and then disappearing, just do a Google search. I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

When I get an email from a Gumtree customer who wants to buy something I'm selling and I reply, my reply immediately disappears off the screen so the person never receives it! I have done everything Gumtree has asked me to do eg clear my caches and cookies.
With Gumtree I have managed to change my primary email address so contact from my adds is ok. But my login email is still the freeserve one and emails from Gumtree themselves still come through on that one. I cannot find any way to change it. Can anyone offer any help, or is it a case of unsubscribing and setting up a new account. Thanks.

BUT the seller has this: "I will accept cash on collection or Bank transfer only. NO PAYPAL I'm not and never am going to be a paypal user."
Jun 14, 2020 · It only works if people actually believe banks offer an escrow service. When taking a bank transfer always check you have cleared fu ds in your account before posting anything. All these scams work on people not doing the most basic of checks and relying solely on a dodgy email.
Oct 31, 2009 · Gumtree is supposed to be a face to face cash system so be careful of anyone wanting stuff posted. If you do take payment by paypal remember that you still have to adhere to all usual paypal requirements as buyer can still do an item not received claim and a fraudulent use of card claim.
May 2, 2016 · I have been scammed on gumtree. I have made a payment of £85, via bank transfer for a car part. However it has been 2 weeks and I have not recieved the car part, and the seller does not answer his phone. I know it should be here by now, as he lived only 100 miles away from me. All I have in terms of the sellers details is the following: Full Name.
