To avoid altitude sickness, we recommend spending at least one or two full days in Quito. If you can spare more, that’s even better, especially if you’ll be visiting other parts of the mainland such as Cotopaxi Volcano. Try to avoid drinking too much alcohol on your first day and don’t eat too many heavy foods either.
