At Canons Ashby, planting takes place with nature and wildlife in mind, as well as for visitors. Plants are selected that insects and birds will love, which are grown from seed in the local area so there is less of an impact on the environment.

Oct 12, 2018 · Canons Ashby house & garden. As a South East of England dweller, I’m accustomed to National Trust properties being over-run with visitors, car-parks bursting at the seams and having to wait for a table in a tea room. Not so in quieter parts of England, such as Northamptonshire.
Canons Ashby is a rare surviving example of early 18th century garden design, typifying the formal style then fashionable. The layout and structural elements of the garden have remained the same ever since, defying the changes in taste which saw many contemporary gardens substantially altered.
Canons Ashby is not one of the larger NT properties but no matter because in this case 'small is beautiful'! We usually visit every year but in this case did not visit in 2020. The gardens, both flower & vegetable, are well kept & weed free so my compliments to the garden staff.
