Submarine is a 2010 coming-of-age comedy-drama film written and directed by Richard Ayoade and starring Noah Taylor, Paddy Considine, Craig Roberts, Yasmin Paige and Sally Hawkins. That's why it is a "Submarine". I found his theory very interesting, as well as making sense. In re-watching the film, I notice that after Oliver learns that Jordana has a new boyfriend, he goes into a post-breakup depression.
Submarine is a story for grown-ups to remind us of the angst of being a teenager. It’s set in 1980’s Wales and is relayed to us in first-person narrative by 15 year old Oliver Tate (Craig Roberts).
