Coogan's Bluff is a 1968 American crime thriller film directed and produced by Don Siegel. It stars Clint Eastwood , Susan Clark , Don Stroud , Tisha Sterling , Betty Field and Lee J. Cobb . 2 min read. “Coogan’s Bluff” is a retelling of one of the oldest American themes: the unspoiled country boy comes to the big city and tests his frontier values against corruption of civilization. This time the hero is a strong, silent deputy sheriff from Arizona, dispatched to New York City to extradite a killer.
The fish-out-of-water scenario is an effective one, and Clint portrays very effectively Coogan's bemusement at the differences of the big city. Like Harry Callahan, Coogan has a problem with red tape and authority, and like nearly all of the characters Clint has portrayed, there are definite character flaws, which make him more believable and accessible to the common man.
