Nov 12, 2022 · In 1883 Burnley were offered the chance to play at a ground adjacent to the town cricket pitch, a stadium called Turf Moor which still serves the Clarets to this day. In that year they made a bit of a name for themselves winning the Dr Dean Trophy, a knockout tournament between Burnley teams.
First visit to Turf Moor was with Northampton Town FC back in FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIV 2 in Nov-97 when we got beat 2-1 by The Clarets. What we remember most from back then was that we had to march around the stadium [on a dirt track] to get to the away end which was all wooden seats.
