Cadfael is a murder mystery show set in medieval England, specifically during the anarchy (1138-1153), a civil war between King Stephen and Empress Matilda. It is based on a series of books. Derek Jacobi plays Brother Cadfael, a man who became a monk at the age of 40 after fighting in the crusades.
Cadfael, the central character of the Cadfael Chronicles, is a Benedictine monk and herbalist at Shrewsbury Abbey, in the English county of Shropshire.
