The usual reason for it not being available is because there's an aircraft change and they're re-allocating seats to everybody, or the flight is pretty full and they need to hold back a few seats until airport check in.
British airways BA online check in unavailable. 2 years ago. I have my flight in less than 24 hours and I cannot checkin in on BA.com. It asks for certificates for covid and only gives verify as an option, I have the verify app and it will not accept my QR code for vaccine saying sorry does not contain date of birth.
