Gavrić arrives in Manhattan with the Bosnian diplomatic delegation, having replaced the murdered Finance Minister. Gavrić actually wants to avenge the death of his wife and daughter, who died in Sarajevo during a sniper attack. He and his brother are later found by Devoe and Kelly.
When a train carrying atomic warheads mysteriously crashes in the former Soviet Union, a nuclear specialist discovers the accident is really part of a plot to cover up the theft of the weapons. Assigned to help her recover the missing bombs is a crack Special Forces Colonel.
George Clooney is in fine form as Lt. Col. Thomas Devoe, professional yet charismatic and his scientific colleague is Dr. Julia Kelly, with Nicole Kidman delivering a polished performance. And for once we get to see a terrorist as a person: Dusan Gavrich (Marcel Iures), despite his mission to destroy us, is a vulnerable, bruised human being.

Dusan Gavrich is the main antagonist of the 1997 movie The Peacemaker.
He is portrayed by Marcel Iureș.
In a flashback, it is shown Gavrich had a wife and daughter whom he loved deeply. A day, while he was walking and reading newspaper, a shootout ensued. Panicked, he run to search for his family, only to find them both shot dead. A distraught Gavrich pleaded to some soldiers for help, but they ignored him. These events shaped him into the person he is in the movie.
Dusan is seen in his home, in Bosnia, teaching a young girl how to play piano. He then has a call from his brother Vlado, who is with Aleksander Kodoroff. Vlado says everything go as planned.
He is later at the parliament of Pale. Following the death of a Serbian politician, who was in fact murdered by the personal hitman of Gavrich, he is told his country needs him. Dusan records himself saying he is at the same time Croatian, Serbian, and Muslim and that he is just a human. After, he mentions the Yugoslav Wars and how the West supplied each side of the war, killing many innocent people, and now sends peacemakers to establish peace according to their design. Gavrich declares the West must suffer as much as his people did to understand that the inhabitants of the former Yugoslavia must find their peace by themselves.
After reciting a sorrowful piano composition, he goes to a graveyard to mourn his dead brother and goes to Dagestan by helicopter to wait for Valdo, who has a nuclear head with him. He then travels to New York to plant the bomb at the UN headquarters, so that the organization explodes.
Devoe and his accomplice, Dr. Julia Kelly, aware of his project, declared a state of emergency in the United States. Gavric manages to go unnoticed because he was officially part of the diplomatic delegation of the Bosnian Serbs, so he does not have to go through customs.
In his hotel room, he activates the bomb and goes to the UN, taking a cab to get there faster. But due to Devoe and Kelly alerting the authorities, the streets are blocked. Dusan resumes his walking to the UN headquarters. However, he is intercepted to cops who wants to check his bag. Before they can find the bomb, Valdo appears and shoots them dead.
