Aug 5, 2024 · Find a buried treasure map. Scope out any nearby chests in a shipwreck or underwater ruins. On shipwrecks, any map chests you find have a 100% chance of spawning a buried treasure map; in underwater ruins, you have a 41.7% to 43.5% chance of finding a treasure map in a chest.
Inside each shipwreck, you can find up to three chests Treasure Chest, Supply Chest and Map Chest with a variety of loot. To get a treasure map, you need to locate the map chest. Note: Map chest are not labeled, but this chest will be located in the lower section of the ship.

Buried Treasure Maps are one of the few items in Minecraft that you can’t craft. But once you find one, you’ll be able to go on an adventure to find some loot. Unlike a Map, a Buried Treasure Map isn’t meant to be used as a guide on how to get back home. It still functions as a normal map would, but instead of showing your location, it’ll lead you to Buried Treasure that’s indicated with a giant red X.
To find a treasure map, you’ll need to go to a water biome to search for a shipwreck. Although it is rare, shipwrecks are sometimes known to spawn on beach shores too. The safest bet is to go to the water biome and find some dolphins. Once you do, kill some Salmon and Cod and feed them to the dolphins raw.
Now that you fed the dolphins, they’ll start leading you to either a Shipwreck or Underwater Ruins. You may need to feed them a couple of fishes before they fully lead you to one or the other.
You can get lucky too and find one by naturally exploring the waters. Sometimes they’ll be easy to spot because the ship mast will be peaking out of the water. But if it’s not peaking out of the water, just keep an eye out, and you’ll notice the ship standing out from the rest of the ocean environment.
For both Java and Bedrock, it’s the same odds of finding a Treasure map in a shipwreck.

Now that you have the map, you’ll notice a few things. For starters, your icon will be far off in the corner, and the map will be brownish with a drawing of the land and a giant red X. As you get closer to the red X, you’ll notice that the Treasure Map will begin to look more and more like a normal Map.
Once you’re above the red X, you’ll need to start digging in the general area to find the treasure. It’s worth mentioning that the treasure won’t always be directly on the red X. So as long as you’re digging the general area of the X, you’ll find it in no time.
Treasure maps are known to give out decent loot once you find the treasure. Listed below is everything you can find in a Buried Treasure, alongside the chances of you finding it.

•Cake: 4.1%
•Chainmail Boots: 57.2%
