I think that the first idea of the lyrics of the song, Rocket Man, came from the song, called Star Man, written and sung by David Bowie in early 1972 as same as released Rocket Man sung by Elton John early 1972. According to Wiki, Elton started recording the album, including this song, Jan. 1972 but David started recording from 1971.
