St. Mary's College, opened in 1959, is an all-girls Catholic-maintained secondary school and Specialist Science School located in Derry, Northern Ireland. It attracts pupils from a wide catchment area, with an enrolment of nearly one thousand pupils aged 11–18 and a staff of 92.
The school opened in Creggan in 1959 and through the Sisters of Mercy provided a vital and outstanding education and support to its many pupils. In 2010 the school moved to the Northland Road into a state of the art educational campus and has continued to build on its reputation as a school of excellence for all abilities.
St Mary’s School was established in 1872 in Paddington, then a relatively wealthy area of London, by the Anglican Foundation of The Sister of the Community of St. Mary the Virgin, Wantage. It was one of the earliest establishments to reflect changing Victorian attitudes to the education of women.
St Mary’s has long served British, and international communities, developing a strong reputation for teaching excellence. Founded in 1850 in Hammersmith as a Catholic teacher training college in 1925, St Mary’s moved to the iconic Strawberry Hill building and grounds in Twickenham.
