Nightwish are a symphonic metal band from Kitee, Finland. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboarder Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead.
Tuomas Holopainen has an idea of a solo project that would play atmospheric “mood music.” The idea quickly crystallises: the sound would include acoustic guitars, flutes, strings, piano – and female vocals.
