- Hanukkah on Rye. A holiday film that is very reminiscent of Jewish classic Crossing Delancey, Hanukkah on Rye feels like one of the first holiday romcoms that embraces Jewish culture rather than just transposing the Christmas film template onto Hanukkah.
- The Night Before. Although Christmas gets its fair share of screentime in The Night Before, there’s plenty of Hanukkah representation in this holiday-themed buddy comedy.
- Eight Crazy Nights. Consider Adam Sandler as Hanukkah’s greatest celebrity ambassador. He co-wrote and starred in the raunchy animated comedy Eight Crazy Nights back in 2002, partially in an attempt to give Jewish audiences a Hanukkah film.
- Eight Gifts of Hanukkah. Lifetime and Hallmark have been on the Christmas train for quite some time now, but Eight Gifts of Hanukkah represents the latter channel's first film that entirely revolves around the Jewish holiday, rather than being a mashup of Christmas and Hanukkah, as we’ve seen before.
- An American Tail (1986) This sweet animated classic opens on the first night of Hanukkah, when Fievel's father gifts him his signature blue hat. The sweet young mouse is eventually separated from his family, who are fleeing cats (an allegory for pogroms) in Russia for a happier, safer new life in America.
- Fiddler on the Roof (1971) This beloved musical honors the unique Jewish struggle to preserve and celebrate their identity and escape persecution.
- Call Me By Your Name (2017) You probably associate Call Me By Your Name more with peaches than, say, potato latkes, but the film features not only two Jewish main characters, but also an ending scene directly from the holiday.
- The Hebrew Hammer (2003) This 2003 comedy focuses on the Jewish Mordechai Carver who is determined to save Hanukkah from the evil Damian Claus—the deviant son of Santa.
- Eight Gifts of Hanukkah. Streaming on Peacock and Hallmark Movies Now. Hallmark's initial attempts at translating Hanukkah to the small screen were met with widespread criticism (more on that to come), but in 2021, the network finally hit the mark with Eight Gifts of Hanukkah.
- Menorah in the Middle. Streaming on Hulu. Night 2 of your Hanukkah TV movie marathon continues on a strong note with a film featuring perhaps the most famous Jewish summer camp alum out there: Ben Platt.
- Double Holiday. Streaming on Prime Video. Of the three Hanukkah movies released in 2019, Hallmark's Double Holiday is the least offensive. Rebecca (Carly Pope) and Chris (Kristoffer Polaha) have always been office enemies, but when they learn that they must plan the ultimate holiday party in order to win a big promotion, they're forced to work together to pull off the event.
- Round and Round. Streaming on Peacock (from December 11 to 13) and Hallmark Movies Now. Like Eight Gifts of Hanukkah, Round and Round doesn't bother explaining itself or catering to non-Jewish viewers.
Hanukkah: Directed by Eben McGarr. With Charles Fleischer, Sid Haig, Caroline Williams, P.J. Soles. A group of Jewish young adults are in for a Festival of Frights.
