    • ‘Trading Places’ (2008) This down-tempo linkup with hitmakers The-Dream and Los Da Mystro finds Usher daydreaming about romantic role reversal—from feminine chivalry to lady-led dominance in the sheets.
    • ‘Moving Mountains’ (2008) The video for Usher’s 2008 single “Moving Mountains” is presented as a sequel to its deliriously horny predecessor “Love In This Club,” a conceit which works for the track at large, as well.
    • ‘Scream’ (2012) Looking 4 Myself is Usher’s most experimental album, a front-to-back foray into new sounds and ideas, which allowed the artist to follow up the simmering first single “Climax” with its diametric opposite.

While lead single “You Make Me Wanna…” pointed him towards wherever his romantic inklings dictated, “My Way” did the opposite, attracting a potential love interest away from her boyfriend and laughing squarely in his face over it.
    • Good Kisser. As his career unfurled, Usher started to become much less subtle, and “Good Kisser” feels like a fulcrum moment in his exploration of innuendo.
    • Throwback featuring Jadakiss. At the time that Usher recorded “Throwback,” producer Just Blaze was undoubtedly in his imperial phase, coming off of helming now-institutional records for Jay-Z and Cam’Ron.
  3. Usher joins the conversation with this immaculate Diplo-produced break-up song that the producer described on Twitter as “Radiohead quiet storm”. A masterclass in less being more, the restraint exercised on ‘Climax’ makes it one of Usher’s most vulnerable and emotive. Grant Brydon. Good Kisser
